For the greater honor and glory of Hajduk, the newly founded Hajduk Supporter Society from Viškovci, a town outside Đakovo, has hosted a friendly football tournament. All Slavonian Supporter Societies were invited, as was Torcida Đakovo. Societies from Garčin, Orahovica, Đakovo, Požega and Feričanci managed to attend; those from Slatina, Slavonski Brod and Osijek unfortunately could not. However, this was made up for by the presence of Hajduk representatives Jasenko Ljubica and Tonči Jelavić. About a hundred guests of honor and over 300 more in attendance witnessed the hosts win first place. The Garčin Hajduk Supporter Society came second, and Torcida Đakovo third. The hosts from Viškovci have every intention of starting a tradition with this get-together. Next year they hope to invite all Hajduk Supporter Societies from Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The Viškovci Society has gained about thirty members in a month since its founding. Clearly its members are not content to merely repeat the words "Hajduk Lives Forever" but also practice what they preach. Their goal is to become the most numerous Society in Slavonia, and move on from there.
The Society's website has a poll where visitors can vote for the Hajduk player they feel best exemplifies moral fiber, fairness and pride; the award which will be given was named after a man who put his family's existence on the line for Hajduk - a man by the name of Hrvoje Maleš.
The Viškovci Hajduk Supporter Society have a long list of activities planned for this year. They hope to host a "Hajduk White Night" and the Hajduk youth teams when they play their away games in nearby Vinkovci and Osijek respectively (March 2nd and 16th). They further hope to use these occasions to host friendly matches against local club Radnički of Viškovci.
All of these activities (and more) are of course meant to promote Hajduk. As such, their biggest hope is to be able to host a gathering of Hajduk legends, thus providing a trip down memory lane for themselves and their neighbors and friends. In the words of Split bard Miljenko Smoje "All kings and emperors can drop dead, but Hajduk will remain."
