Portuguese Hugo Almeida is a new player of Hajduk. A 33-year-old experienced striker arrived in Split on Thursday afternoon and signed a contract with Hajduk. Almeida will join his new team for the first training session on Monday.

"By the very first impression, I realized I have come to a big club. I've heard about Hajduk, his rich history, ambitions, I'm really familiar with the atmosphere at the stadium and I can't wait to play the first match for Hajduk. Of course, my goal is to help the team achieve the greatest success possible, and my personal expectations are to score as many goals as possible by the end of the season, which is also one of my main tasks" said Almeida after signing a contract for Hajduk.

The attacker was born on May 23, 1984 in Figueira da Foz and has arrived from Greek club AEK Athens, for which he played 16 matches last season and scored four goals.

Almeida started his career at the Portuguese Naval Club, and played and scored for Porto, Leiria, Boavista, Werder Bremen, Besiktas, Cesena, Kuban Krasnodar, Anzi, Hannover and finally for AEK, since last summer. Almeida's most prolific period was when he played for German club Werder from Bremen, where he scored 65 goals and added 26 assists in a total of 181 appearances.

He has collected 57 appearances for the Portuguese team and scored 19 goals. He played in two European Championships (2008 and 2012) and two World Cups (2010 and 2014).
