Ahead of the first leg against Sillamäe Kalev, a little reminder. Hajduk played several times against teams from the USSR, but also against those coming from the newly independent states, once part of the USSR. Most of those matches were a part of the UEFA Cup, or later the European League. The only duel in some other competition was against Dynamo Moscow in 1984/85 season Cup Winners Cup. Hajduk played as a host in Osijek, and was eliminated by the Soviet side.
The first time Hajduk played against some Soviet team in the UEFA Cup was in the season 1985/86, when the Whites eliminated Dnipro. It took next 11 season before Hajdu played next time against some team from that part of the world. In the season 1996/97 we played twice; in the first qualification round Hajduk have beaten Zimbru Chișinău, and in the secon Torpedo Moscow was better in two games.
After that, another break, this time 16-years long. In the season 2012/13, Hajduk won Skonto Riga in the second round of the qualification for the European League.
In the season 2013/14 Dila Gori from Tbilisi won both legs with 1-0. In the last season, Hajduk have beaten Shakhter Karagand in the third round of the qualifications, but in the next round was eliminated by Dnipro from Ukraine, later finalist of the European League.
Overall, Hajduk played with these teams with mixed success. Let's hope two matches against Sillämae Kalev will make statistics a little bit better.Estonije biti uspješan.
