Hajduk continues their great run of form since the coach Zeljko Kopic took over the team three months ago. In that period, Hajduk played a total of seven official matches and won six times, while one match ended in a draw, with an impressive goal difference of 21:4. On average, Kopic's team scored as many as three goals per match, which confirms a great attacking form, having in mind that in only one game they scored less than two goals. In the last two games, the goal difference was 10:0, Hajduk won 5:0 against Inter Zapresic in the last autumn round, and then beat Cibalia with the same result three days ago at the opening of the spring part of the season in Vinkovci.

As many as five of the last seven games were played away and Hajduk won each of them. These away matches took place in Pula against Istra 1961 (1:3), Osijek at Gradski vrt (1:3), Rijeka at Rujevica (1:2), Lokomotiva at Maksimir (0:2) and finally in Vinkovci against Cibalia (5:0), where Cibalia suffered the worst home defeat in Croatian Football League.

On Sunday at Maksimir, Hajduk plays the biggest Croatian derby against Dinamo, kick – off 15:00. Their last game took place in October 2017 at Poljud and ended in 2:2 draw, and the match referee was Tihomir Pejin, who was also appointed for this week's derby. He will be assisted by Tomislav Petrovic from Valpovo and Miro Grgic from Osijek. The fourth official is Goran Pataki from Osijek, and the additional assistant referees are Mario Zebec from Cestica and Igor Krizaric from Cakovec.
