Hajduk lost the first round match against NK Osijek at Gradski vrt stadium in Osijek, the final result was 4:1 for the host. After the match, head coach said:

"We entered the game in the right way, we scored for a lead but then we had a few bad defensive reactions after which we conceded two goals in a few minutes and in the second half, all the worst things happened to us, penalty kick for Osijek, injury of our goalkeeper Tomislav Duka, injury of our captain Zoran Nižić for which we had to end the match with 10 players in the field. We now have to do everything to recover from this, regenerate and be ready for the second-leg game against Slavia".
