The first team opened HT First League season 2019/2020 with a home victory over Istra 1961. The match that took place at Poljud ended in a 2:0 win for Hajduk. It was a great start for the coach Damir Burić, only 24 hours after he took over the team, they won the first game.

"The most important thing was to prepare the team psychologically and boost their spirits. It was a really tough game for us, congratulations to the team, we felt a real support from our fans. That furious beginning was really good, we created a lot of chances but Istra has many fast and good players and I think that they will surprise many teams. I can't say that we are satisfied, we have many more things to do. Our biggest responsibility was to win tonight, now we have seven days to arrange some things and improve our game. I hope that we will watch a better football already on the next game".
