
On this day 25 years ago, Hajduk won the first championship title in the independent Republic of Croatia.
12 clubs played the first season of the Croatian football league and the championship took place only in the spring of 1992 because of the war in Croatia, since it escalated in the autumn of 1991.
In the final round of the championship in Split, played on June 13, 1992, Hajduk won Sibenik 4:1 thanks to the goals scored by Ardian Kozniku (2), Ivica Mornar and Eduardo Abazi, and became the title winner of the first Croatian championship.
In the end, Hajduk was the champion with 36 points, followed by Zagreb 33, Osijek with 27, Inker with 26, and the fifth HAŠK Građanski. The top scorer of the first Croatian Football League was Ardian Kozniku with 12 goals scored. Hajduk, the title winner, was coached by the head coach Stanko Poklepovic and his assistants Ivan Katalinic and Zeljko Mijac.
Doctor Stjepan Jukić Peladic was the President of the Hajduk back in the period when the Club won the first title of independent Croatia, President of the Assembly was late academician Ivo Petrinovic, Director of the club was Vedran Rozic and Sports Director Ivan Buljan.

In the Republic of Croatia, Hajduk has won the champions title six times: in the seasons 1992, 1993/1994, 1994/1995, 2000/2001, 2003/2004 and 2004/2005.
